Before I get into my acceptance speech, and thank all my donors, I have to tell you what I've been up to in the fundraising department. Trust me, there is not one day that goes by that I'm not working on this (you can ask my co-worker Laura, she sadly has to hear about it Monday through Friday)...
This past weekend, Labour Day, my new best fundraising friend Nancy, her boyfriend Brent, and me and Wayne planted ourselves outside of Zehrs in Barrie to do a fundraising BBQ. Oh right, before I get into that I have to finish my first thought.
Without giving away all the details about the Giant BBQ that wasn't...let me say this. When I woke up this morning, I was still $297 away from my September 1st goal of $1,960. Yep, a bit of panic set in as I resigned myself of having to ask for another extension, or eating only kraft dinner for a week if I had to pay that myself.
So before I did that, I did the next obvious thing. I started begging on facebook for donations. Shortly after I changed my status to begging, I checked my email, and almost fell on the floor. I received a VERY GENEROUS donation from a very, very dear friend. Whoo-hoo!!! It was only 1pm, and I was now only $197 away from my goal!!!
So what did I do next...I put on my big girl pants... and called my mom. She listened, as she always does, and I listened to her as she gave her advice, all the while thinking of ways her ideas wouldn't work. So after a great pep talk from her, I changed into my running clothes (which magically make me feel 20lbs lighter)...and decided to go for a run. Then it rained as I walked out the door. Long story short (I know, too late..), I did my run of 3km..(oh, and found a new running song to add to my playlist, "Dancing Queen"), came back, cooked dinner and started into the boys' bedtime routine. In the middle of that, I get a call from my Aunt Phyllis who's on vacation in PEI (let me give you another glimpse of the Halbert household..I had to take the call in my closet, just so I could concentrate)...
And ta-da....I am now...
PAST MY GOAL, BY $205!!!!
My mom and my Aunt Phyllis worked their magic, and rounded up a few donations from a couple of my very generous (and now favourite, lol) Aunts!!! Thank you! Thank you to my Aunts Phyllis, Darlene, Barbara and my very special Gram.
So my fundraising total as of today, is $2,165!! Which leaves me only $3,435 away from the finish line!! Does anyone have any great fundraising ideas?

Thank goodness for supportive family, eh? :) Congrats on surpassing your first goal!
ReplyDeleteWhat happened to the BBQ... I want to hear the rest of the story about the Giant BBQ that wasn't!
